How to Start Crocheting a Blanket

Some basic instruction on how to crochet a blanket. These instruction can be changed make different size crochet blankets, such as baby on sofa even for a bed.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • worsted weight wool(yarn)
  • Size h or other size to accommodate wool(yarn)
  • some basic crochet knowledge
  1. Step 1

    This crochet blanket and be adjusted to any size. The design can come from changing color of thread to make strips. If you use a small thread be sure to use a smaller crochet hook.

  2. Step 2

    Make a slip knot at put your crocket hook inside the loop. Pull the loop snug on the crochet hook. Not tight the loop has to move on the hook.

  3. Step 3

    Chain the length of the desired size of the blanket. Double crochet in the 2nd chain from hook and in each chain stitch all the way across. Chain 2. turn. Double crochet in the top of the next stitch and each stitch all the way across. Repeat from chain 2 until you reach the desired size of the blanket.

Tips & Warnings
  • A Chain stitch is when you pull the yarn through the loop on the hook (always one loop on hook)
  • A Double crochet, wrap the yarn around the hook, insert the hook in the next stitch and pull the yarn through the stitch. (There should be 3 loop on hook).Pull the yarn through 2 loop. (2 loops on hook). Pull yarn through 2 loops (1 loop on hook)
  • To change color : when the end of the row has been reach cut the yarn and pull out 2 or three stitches tie on the new color redo the stitch pulled out and continue as before.
  • To add some interest to the blanket besides changing color stitch in front loop then back loop.
  • When reaching the last stitch in each row don't forget to double crochet in the top chain of chain 2 or you blank will get a little short.
