Create the best outfits for your body type and personal style.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Great clothes
  • Cute accessories
  1. Step 1

Know your body type and what styles fit best on you. Aim for shapes that will enhance and show off your best features.

  2. Step 2

Learn your real clothing size! No matter how cute and stylish your outfit is, constant adjusting and discomfort are not cute. Squeezing yourself into smaller sizes may make you feel better as far as numbers are concerned, but nobody else can tell what size you are wearing, so concentrate on the FIT, rather than the SIZE.

  3. Step 3

Figure out what colors look best on your skin tone. Depending on your skin tone, a color too light, too dark, or too similar to your own skin may cause you to look washed out. When trying on different colors, ask for a second opinion until you learn your full range of potential color choices.

  4. Step 4

Don’t be afraid to try new colors, styles, or prints. If you’ve ever seen an outfit you loved, but thought to yourself, “I could never pull that off,” you’re not giving yourself enough credit; you can wear a lot more than you think, so experiment with new options. At first, wearing something different from your normal outfits can seem intimidating and cause you to second guess, but if you feel good wearing it in front of your mirror, you can wear it with confidence out in public too.

  5. Step 5

Only buy what you really love. This sounds quite simple and obvious, but you'd be surprised at how many people buy an item they ‘like’, but forget all about it and never end up wearing it. Your clothes should be calling out to you, as if they were made just for you to wear. If you feel like you ‘think’ you might wear it, or it’s just ‘okay’, keep looking for something you have no doubts about. This way, you end up only with clothes you know you will wear, and you save money you would have wasted on clothes you wouldn’t actually wear.

  6. Step 6

Find out what cuts and styles go together. Two different piece of clothing may look amazing on you, but maybe not when they are together. Play around with different outfit options to figure out which pieces look good with each other. Your outfits should have a good balance between looseness/tightness, showing skin/covering up, different lengths, and different textures and colors.

  7. Step 7

Accessorize! This is an essential step to complete every look. Accessories can make or break the outfit, so choose carefully. Don’t wear too many different pieces at the same time, or you will overwhelm the outfit. Location is also important; think about what features you want to draw attention to. Wear colors that will complement the outfit; they can match the colors exactly, be a neutral base, or be different colors completely. Matching colors creates a uniform, clean look, neutral colors make for a classier appearance, or wear different colors for a more fun and funky look.

  8. Step 8

Own that outfit! Clothing is one of the first impressions people will have of you, so decide what you want your clothes to say about you. Fashion is an art and should be an expression of you.
