Instructions

    • 1

Cut off the top of the pineapple, just below where the leaves start. Or twist the pineapple top off. Carefully grasp the lowest part of the leaves and twist until it pops off.

    • 2

Pull off some of the leaves from the bottom, so leaves at the base will not be sitting in water.

    • 3

      Add water to the jar.

    • 4

Place the pineapple top in the jar of water so that the base -- but not any leaves -- are submerged. Let the leaves balance the pineapple in the jar. The leaves will rot if they are touching the water. Keep the plant away from hot areas, such as sunny windows. Let the roots grow for about three weeks.

    • 5

After substantial roots have appeared, fill a pot 3/4 full with potting soil.

    • 6

Bury the roots and bottom part of the plant in the soil.

    • 7

Keep the soil moist, but not wet, and watch it grow.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep the pineapple top growing in water, if you prefer not to add it to soil.

  • It may take two to three years for a fruit to flower and bear fruit.
