This instruction will give you general information on how to build a jacuzzi base.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • measuring tape
  • saw
  • 2x4's or 2x6's
  • 2 1/2 in. nails/screws
  • level
  • silicone adhesive

Basically what you will be building is a frame to sit your jacuzzi tub on to support the edges. The bottom of the tub will sit on the floor. Measure the size of the opening your tub needs making sure to give clearance for the plumbing that runs along the sides of the tub and the pump.

  2. Step 2

Using 2x4 construction build four walls with vertical studs every 16 inches making the inside opening of the walls to fit your tub under the overhang. Make the height of the walls the same as the height of the jacuzzi tub when it is sitting on the floor (tub should have factory installed spacer blocks on the bottom so it sits flat on the floor)measuring to the bottom edge of the overhang. This structure will form the base.

  3. Step 3

Apply silicone adhesive around the perimeter where the tub will contact the base to ensure a watertight seal. Set your tub on top of the base. If your tub is very large you can build the base with the tub in place but it is much harder to work around and you must be sure the base is actually supporting the edges of the tub.

  4. Step 4

Designate one of the openings between the studs as an access panel to the pump and electrical connections.

  5. Step 5

Apply finishing touches. eg. green board, tile, grout

Tips & Warnings
  • use water proof materials and sealant
  • must have jacuzzi tub connected to a ground fault interrupter circuit.
  • make sure your floor is strong enough to support the weight of the tub including the weight when it is full of water. water is about 8 lbs. per gallon.
