This is a easy simple way to make gravy that goes well with beef steaks, grilled chicken breast, liver and onions or other meat and potatoes dishes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ingredients:
  • ¼ cup of oil
  • ½ cup of chopped onions
  • 1/ 2 cup of All Purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cup of water ½ glove of garlic
  • Salt and pepper (seasoned to taste)
  1. Step 1

Place skillet on stove element. Set temperature of element to medium high.

  2. Step 2

Place oil in skillet(Preferably olive, canola, or peanut oil). Allow oil to warm then add onions in skillet. Allow onions to simmer a few minutes.

  3. Step 3

Cook onions until you can see through them. Do not brown. Try to keep cooking temperature low enough in order to cook onions without burning them.

  4. Step 4

Gradually sprinkle a thin layer of flour over onion and oil mixture. Just as the flour is turning light brown, slowly add water while stirring.

  5. Step 5

Once gravy begins to simmer, add garlic, salt and pepper to taste while stirring. Gravy may look thin, but it will thicken after simming a few minutes.

  6. Step 6

Reduce heat and allow gravy to simmer on low heat for 5 minutes to 7 minutes or until it thickens. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • For thinner gravy gradually add more water until you reach desired consistency. If gravy seems too thin, continue to simmer until excess water is removed. Do not add additional flour or the mixture will become lumpy. For a delicious beef flavor, add beef boulion instead of water to the oil, onion, and flour mixture.
