Things You'll Need:
- Playing cards
- Index cards
- Folding tables and chairs
-
Step 1
Choose the card game that you will play at your party. Set a date and time for your card game party. Call or E-mail family and friends to see who might be interested in attending your card party. When I have a card game party I start with an invitation to 12 people. I like to mix up the group with couples and single individuals. If I have someone on my original list of 12 who can’t attend; I call another person or couple and see if they want to play. The object is to end up with multiples of 4 (8, 12, or 16) people playing at tables of 4. The number of people you invite depends on the amount of space you have for the tables and chairs. If you don’t have enough tables and chairs you can ask to borrow some for the evening.
-
Step 2
When I invite people to the card party I inform them of the date, time, and location of the party. I request they bring a snack to share with the group and $1 to put into the kitty, (our kitty goes to the person who has the most points or the most wins at the end of the night), but you could take the kitty and donate it to a charity of your choice, or skip the money collection altogether.
-
Step 3
On the day (or night) of my card game party I make sure I have plenty of soft drinks, coffee, and water on hand to share. I generally buy paper plates and plastic silverware for the card party; which makes for easier clean-up. I set up the number of tables that I need and put out playing cards, pens, and other needed items (depending on what game you play at the party). I give a table number to each table. I number my regular dining room table number one as it is also located closest to the food and drinks. Number the others in the order they are set up. I take one index card for each person who is playing cards and I number the cards: table 1 team 1 and table 1 team 2 (making two sets for each table). The next table would be table 2 team 1, table 2 team 2, and so on.
-
Step 4
At the appointed time for the card party as guests arrive they take their snacks to the kitchen. The coffee is already made, and soft drinks and water are set out, so while we wait for others I’m ready to visit. When everyone has arrived and put their dollar into the kitty we are ready to play. Each person draws an index card from the pile to determine which table they will sit at and which partner they will play with first. Remind everyone to write their name on the bottom of the card. Before the game starts determine how long each round will last or how it will end. Inform people what to put on their index card in regards to point values. In Euchre we play until one of the teams gets 10 points, they yell, “game” and we stop playing and move to the next table after recording our points.
-
Step 5
After each round; two people from each table move to a new table. If you are seated at the head table (which is number 1) and win the round you don’t move; the losers do. The winners at table 2 moves to table 3, and the winners from table 3 would move to table 1. At each new table you play with a new partner; sometimes this isn’t possible. By the end of the evening you will have partnered with almost everyone for at least one game.
-
Step 6
During the card game; we do a lot of eating and socializing. Everyone gets to try a wide variety of snacks. At the end of the card game everyone counts up their own points. The person with the most points wins the kitty (unless you choose to donate it to charity), or you could give them a prize (from the dollar store). I always have a small prize on hand to give to the person with the lowest score of the evening too.
