This article will give general information on how to install a strut tower brace. Front or rear installation will be similar. The basic purpose of a strut brace is to give additional rigidity to the unbraced portion of the strut tower during heavy cornering. The strut tower is the portion of the vehicle that gives a mounting point to the body opposite the spindle with the strut as the connector suspending the weight of the vehicle at each corner.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Socket set and ratchet
  • Torque wrench
  • metric/standard wrench
  • set - open ended
  • thread locking compound
  1. Step 1

Park the vehicle on a level surface.

  2. Step 2

Remove the strut top nuts for both the left side and right side strut tops. Not the big center nut for the actual strut shaft just the ones for the top bearing plate. Generally will be 3 or 4 13mm (socket size) nuts for each strut tower.

  3. Step 3

Place your strut tower brace over the strut tower studs and tighten the nuts to settle the brace then back off one turn. Center the strut tower brace with equal tension to each strut top.

  4. Step 4

Apply thread locking compound to threads and fully tighten or torque the strut tower brace.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure the vehicle is on a level surface so the chassis will be loaded equally on all corners.
  • Proper torque should be supplied by strut brace manufacturer.
