Wedding flowers can be overdone and very expensive!
Wedding flowers can be overdone and very expensive!

Wedding flowers can be a large part of your wedding budget, but they don't need to be! Follow these simple tips and tricks to save big bucks.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First, never shop for wedding flowers. Once you put the word - wedding - in front of anything, retailers will charge about twice as much for the product because they know brides are willing to pay that much. You can find a lot of lovely bouquets and other items at your florist that aren't necessary designed for weddings.

  2. Step 2

Second, consider how exotic flowers add not just to your cost but your carbon footprint as well! Tropical flowers need to be flown in or trucked in to most locations. Search for locally grown flowers in your area and you'll save money and carbon emissions.

  3. Step 3

Third, use flowers like carnations, tulips, and sunflowers. Dress up these bouquets with just a few colorful roses. The bouquet pictured here retails for around $40.

  4. Step 4
Less is more when it comes to wedding flowers!

Fourth, smaller bouquets are chic and stylish! Large, overflowing bouquets are not only expensive but somewhat out of date. They also overpower your dress. Notice how this bouquet of just a dozen purple carnations makes a dramatic impact! So opt for a bouquet that is small and tasteful rather than one that's overblown and even downright tacky.

  5. Step 5

Bouquet holders, collars, sleeves and clamps are very inexpensive and can be used to make your own bouquet. For even more savings, simply have a bouquet that you secure with a rubber band and then tie a large ribbon around this; have the ribbon flow with a lot of length for added drama.

  6. Step 6

Remember that fillers such as baby's breath, ferns, and other greens can help to make your bouquet that much more dramatic without adding much extra cost.

  7. Step 7

For bridesmaid flowers, consider just a few flowers or even one with a long stem tied with a ribbon which she cradles along her arm the way you hold a baby. These would be very inexpensive and very dramatic as well.
