Celebrate the first day of spring by planting new life, new ideas and new goals. Spring is a time for hope, fertile ground and planning ahead. It's especially important to celebrate the first day of spring with young children and to give them an appreciation for the little things that they can do to effect change in their lives.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Seed Packets
  • Notebook
  • Scrapbook Materials
  • Memory Box
  • Pen and paper
  • Garden tools
  • Imagination
  1. Step 1

Mark the first day of Spring on your calendar: March 21st in the Northern Hemisphere and September 22nd in the Southern Hemisphere.

  2. Step 2

Buy seed packets. Pick out seed packets you would like to plant along with seed cups, soil and a plant light. You can plant the seeds around the time of the spring equinox and let them sprout indoors. This is important, particularly in regions where the cold lasts into early Spring. By planting the seeds inside and tending them there, it gives the seeds time to sprout. You can transplant them outside when it warms up.

  3. Step 3

Plant new ideas with each seed. One way to celebrate the first day of spring is to plant a new idea with each seed. You and your child can make a list of all the things you would like to see realized this year. Make a commitment to that idea, that goal or that dream with each seed you plant.

  4. Step 4

Nurture those ideas. If you want to learn something new, take the steps to start developing that knowledge. That's the thing about ideas, they are like flowers and plants, if you nurture them, they will germinate and grow. They will help you develop new habits, look ahead and inspire hope.

  5. Step 5

Create a scrapbook of these ideas. Use scrapbook creativity and art to create the image of the things you want to accomplish and to illustrate your goals and dreams. With kids, this is an exercise in visualization. By creating the future you want to see, you can work towards it.

  6. Step 6

Spend time outside. Clear out the weeds, spread fertilizer on the grass and add some grass seed to the yard. Spend time with colorful crayons and markers, create scrapbook pages and even write a letter about what you hope to accomplish in the spring.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be creative.
  • Be intuitive.
  • Spring is about growth, planting and development.
  • Don't concentrate on endings, harvesting or eliminating.
  • Spring is for looking forward not back.
  • Creative art projects, gardening projects and writing projects are just a few ways to share the gifts of spring with your children.
