How to Make Dog Diapers

It can be hard to cope when a pet begins to lose control of his or her bladder. If you want to be able to support yourself in their golden years, but you do not want to pay 30 dollars or more for doggie diapers here is a more economic solution.

Things You'll Need

  • A bandanna or large piece of square cloth.
  • Sanitary napkins.
  • A needle and thread
  • Iron or stick on velcro.
  • Plastic bags or sheeting.

Instructions

    • 1

Size up your dog. You want to cut your square piece of cloth so that it can reach both around your dogs torso and over his butt while it is folded in half lengthwise to create a triangle. They three corners should be long enough to touch with about an inch to two inches of overlap on your dogs back. The fit should be snug, but not tight.

    • 2

Using your needle and thread sew up the doubled over fabric to create a two layered triangle. If you happen to have some on hand, put the plastic bag or sheeting between the two layers of fabric before you sew it up. This will help to prevent leaks without making your dog chafe in the diaper.

    • 3

Secure the velcro into the over laping areas of the diaper. Be sure to do this so that the rough sides of the velcro are always facing up and away from your dogs skin, not near his skin which could cause irritation to the skin.

    • 4

Place the sanitary napkin into the part of the triangle that will be directly below the place where urine will come out.

    • 5

Using the velcro, secure the diaper to your dog.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make more than one diaper, this way you can toss one into the wash without leaving your dog unprotected.

  • Do not use thin or plastic like or strechy (spandex, ect...) fabrics for this procedure.

  • Do not leave this on the dog during a walk.

  • Never leave a wet diaper on a dog. This is cruel and unhealthy for the dog.
