When you skin looks dull and lifeless, is a good signal that it's time to exfoliate.
Are skin is constantly shedding the top layer of the skin(epidermis). Using a scrub will aid in this shedding process to take place faster. Used 1 to 2 times a week. The ruddy complexion will become a smooth and soft once again. If you want to have that natural glow again, than you must scrub.

  1. Step 1

    WHAT ARE FACIAL SCRUBS?

A facial scrub is a product used to remove dead skin cells. They are especially designed for the facial skin because it is so delicate. A scrub will actually cleanse the inside of the facial skin. Your pores specifically.

  2. Step 2
MILD ABRASIVE AGENTS USED IN SCRUBS

MILD ABRASIVE AGENTS USED IN SCRUBS

What are the ingredients of a facial scrub?

They are usually water-based products with a humectant, mixed with some sort of mild abrasive agent such as almond meal or sorts of granules sugar and other grains.
These granules remove the dead cells from the skins surface. Some scrubs may contain vitamin A and E.
They contain oil or cream to hold it together. Essential oils are found in scrubs for scent as well as for relaxation and well being.
There are harsher abrasives in the scrubs such as sea salts, sand particles, and ground pumice. If any of these ingredients are in the scrub you are using, stop using it, they are not meant for the face.
When ever you are using a walnut scrub you need to be careful, some of the walnut scrubs are likely to scratch the face if the walnuts are not finely ground. The best scrub is one that contains round beads. These cleanse the pores better since our pores are round, they fit right into the pores.

  3. Step 3

What are the different types of scrubs?

CLEANSING SCRUBS: Very basic often suitable for daily use as long as your skin is not prone to acne or is on the sensitive side. Some of these multi-purpose cleansing scrubs contain surfactants that has high detergents for sudsing purpose. They can be very drying to the skin.
These types of scrubs are usually suited for normal skin.

MEDICATED SCRUBS: Acne prone skin will benefit from this type of scrub because of it content of benzoyl peroxide and alcohol which helps in drying up acne. Here again you need to be careful when using these scrubs, while they can help heal, they can also irritate blemishes if used to aggressively.

ANTI-AGING SCRUBS: These scrubs contain your AHA'S(ALPHA HYDROXY ACIDS)
which aids in fighting wrinkles. I believe that you would find better results with a moisturizer with AHA'S in it.

MOISTURIZING SCRUBS: This type of scrub will really benefit those who have dry skin. It is important that you remove those dry dead cells for healthier looking skin. Scrubs that contain a good moisturizer, such as cocoa butter, jojoba oil, essential oils. The main purpose for a moisturizer scrub is to add moisture to the skin.

  4. Step 4

What you need to consider when using a scrub:

Each skin type requires different types of care. So you should use a scrub that is suited to your skin type.

Price: It's not important that you use the highest priced scrub or as some call skin polishers, you want to make sure that you are getting the benefits you need.

knowledge: Know what makes a good scrub, you want the scrub to help your skin not damage it. Make sure that your scrubs have finely ground ingredients and that they won't scratch your skin.

Also remember a good scrub should rinse easily without leaving a residue.

  5. Step 5

    How to use a scrub?

I believe it is best to cleanse the face first removing all your make-up.
If you are using a cleansing scrub than you can skip the cleansing step, however you don't want to use the scrub to remove your eye make-up.

    Step 1: Remove eye make-up

Step 2: Damage face with warm water.

Step 3: With the tip of your fingers place scrub on them.

Step 4: Apply product starting on cheek area, you will use a gentle circular motion. If you have blackheads or clog pores, using the circular motion will help to clean them out.
Continue over entire face for about 3 to 5 minutes.

Step five: Rinse with warm water with a cloth or without. If you are going to use a wash clothe always you a freshly laundered one. You don't want to take a chance that you would add bacteria or other germs to your face by using a dirty cloth.

Step 6: Finish with a toner or astringent.

If you have used the scrub it is not recommended to use a mask. When you need to mask it should be on a day that you don't scrub.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can make your own mask with brown sugar as the exfoliant.
  • Use a facial scrub 1 to 2 times a week
  • People with super sensitive skin should not use a scrub
  • Those that have moderate to severe acne should not use a scrub
  • If you over do it on the scrubs you will not have that glow like you did before. So give the scrubs a rest for a couple weeks and use the 1 to 2 times a week method.
