- Foundation brush

Step 1
To choose the best color of foundation you need to know you undertone. The easiest way to do this it to turn your wrist over and analyze the color. Notice the shade. Are you pink, yellow, dark or tan? These categories fit the general population. However, if you cannot decide what color you are then their is a good chance that you are a neutral.

Step 2
Now that you have determined your undertone, it is time to choose the right shade. Take a cotton swab and pick 3 shades that look closest to yours. Stripe the bottom of your face going down toward your neck and notice which foundation blends into your skin. The reason you want it to match your neck is because you don't want the dreaded foundation mask! Of course, if you are in a drug store this will be harder to do, however, some stores are now allowing you to test foundation colors. A beauty consultant at a department store like Macy's or Nordstrom will also allow you try foundation colors before you make your purchase.

Step 3
Once you have decided which foundation is right for you, apply it with a foundation brush for a finished look. Do not over-apply! Nothing looks worse than caked on makeup up. Your foundation should look beautiful and natural as if you are not wearing any at all.
