How to Use Pharmacy Coupons to Get Free Gift Cards
You can get free gift cards if you use pharmacy coupons to transfer your prescriptions from drugstore to drugstore. You may have heard of the grocery game, where you take advantage of a combination of manufacturer's coupons, store coupons, and store bonus bucks to save money or even get items for free. But the rules are different for pharmacy prescriptions. Read on to see how you can get free gift cards by using pharmacy coupons to transfer your prescriptions.
Instructions

-
1
If you have insurance, check your plan to find out which pharmacies are covered in their network.
-
2
Get a prescription with refills. In order to get the reward, you must transfer an existing prescription. You will have to fill it once before you can transfer it.
-
-
3
Look for ads and pharmacy coupons in weekly mailers and drug store circulars for places like Rite Aid, Walgreens, Long's and CVS. The competition between pharmacies is fierce, so most of them offer similar incentives for prescription transfers, usually $25 or $30 gift cards.
-
4
Look for a drugstore that will give you a reward for a new prescription. These offers are becoming rarer, but look around and see if you can find one. If you do, this will be your starting pharmacy for a new prescription.
-
5
If you can't find a pharmacy that will reward you for placing a new prescription with them, start with one that doesn't offer a transfer rewards program. You don't want to lose out by starting at a place that offers a rewards program for a prescription transfer.
-
6
Fill the initial prescription at your chosen first pharmacy.
-
7
Plan your strategy. You will want the last place transfer the prescription to be to the place that is most convenient for you, probably one near your home or office.
-
8
Check the policies of each drugstore to see how long you have to leave your prescription there after transferring it. If it is too long and/or the pharmacy is too far away to be convenient, it may not be worth the savings.
-
9
Start collecting pharmacy coupons and transfer your prescriptions to collect your gift cards or other bonuses.
-
10
When you go to the pharmacy to which you are transferring your prescription, bring:
The pharmacy coupon
Your insurance card
The Rx number of the prescription
The phone number of the pharmacy that last filled the prescription

Tips & Warnings
When you get your reward for transferring a prescription, find out if you can use the credit for your copay. Often the credit is in the form of a gift card for a separate purchase, but some places will allow you to use it for the copay, so be sure to ask.

Good point, Kallicat. It does depend on your healthcare plan. Many of them have a large network of participating pharmacies, but as you point out, some do not. -

One caveat usually for those programs is that you don't have insurance coverage; however, they are a great deal if you can use them. My health insurance requires the use of their pharmacy so I don't get the option. Thanks for an informative article. -

I was unaware of the availability of pharmacy coupons to get free gifts for transferring prescriptions. This is another imaginative way to help one's budget. 5*
