Many parents grow frustrated with trying to keep hair accessories in a little girl's baby-fine hair. Barrettes, clips and other hair accessories generally just fall out of a baby's hair. However, there is a simple method to make your own hair bows for babies that will not slide out as easily. Instead of a clip, use Velcro as the base. The Velcro grabs onto even the finest hair without pain or discomfort and securely keeps the hair bow in place.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 10 inches of ribbon (about 1/4 inch wide) Velcro (1 x 1/4-inch wide) Fabric glue Needle Thread (to match ribbon) Scissors
  1. Step 1

Tie the ribbon into a bow. You can play with size, width and length of the ends by tying several versions. Once you find a size and shape that fits well on the Velcro piece, trim off any extra ribbon length and set the finished ribbon carefully aside.

  2. Step 2

Sew the Velcro piece together along one side. The Velcro will be shaped like a rectangle. Sew one of the short sides together, through the top and bottom layer. When finished, you should be able to separate the two Velcro halves up until the place where they are stitched together. This is the part that will open, enclose the baby's hair, then close again securely.

  3. Step 3

Glue the bow onto the center of the Velcro piece. Some people also put a small stitch in the center of the bow to keep it securely on.

  4. Step 4

Allow the glue to dry completely. Give the bow a gentle tug to ensure that it will not easily separate from the Velcro strip.

  5. Step 5

Separate a lock of your baby's hair and secure the hair accessory in place. Separate the Velcro strips and place the section of hair inside. Close the Velcro over the section of hair and ensure that it is secure.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can add decorations to the center of the bow. Many craft stores have little plastic charms, buttons, flowers or beads that will add sparkle to a baby hair bow.
