Things You'll Need:
- Computer (optional) Inkjet Printer (optional) Markers (optional) Fabric Transfer Paper Pack of plain infant onesies Iron Flat surface for ironing
-
Step 1
Choose an image or design an image to place on the onesie. You may want to choose a photograph that you have taken or use a design program to create your own image. You may also want to search public domain images on the Internet to use in your design.
-
Step 2
Print out a copy of your image on fabric transfer paper. Some papers designed for fabric transfer also let you draw your design directly onto the paper with markers. Check the paper's iron-on instructions to determine whether or not you need to reverse the image before printing it out.
-
Step 3
After printing the image, use sharp scissors to trim around the edges of your image. For a crisp transfer, trim as close around the edges as possible.
-
Step 4
Set up an ironing surface. One option is to cover a cutting board with a pillow and set it on the floor. Working on the floor allows you to optimize the amount of pressure you can apply to the image with the iron.
-
Step 5
Heat your iron to the correct setting, determined by what fabric you plan to print your image onto. Cotton typically requires an iron to be set on to its highest heat setting. Check to determine whether the fabric transfer paper you are using requires steam heat. Iron the onesie before transferring the image if there are any wrinkles in the fabric. Place the image onto the onesie where you want it to be. Iron the image onto the onesie, being sure to follow the fabric transfer paper instructions. Pay close attention to ironing the edges of the image onto the fabric.
-
Step 6
Allow the onesie to cool, ensuring the image is completely adhered to the fabric. After the fabric has cooled, peel off the top layer of paper, revealing the transferred image.
