How to Make Your Own Soft Plastic Fishing Lures

- Liquid plastic Saucepan Plastic coloring Stovetop Lure molds Shallow container or dish Water Glitter (optional) Lure scent oil Paper towels Hooks

Turn the stove on to low heat. Place 1 ounce of liquid plastic in a saucepan. Melt the plastic and continue to stir the plastic constantly. Make sure the plastic doesn't come to a simmer and bubble. Just allow it to melt.

Mix in a few drops of plastic coloring. Stir and add more coloring until you reach the desired color. Set the mold(s) on a countertop or flat surface. If you would like glitter, add it in now. Stir well to make sure it is evenly distributed.

Place the hooks in the molds. Carefully pour the liquid plastic in the mold. Make sure the hooks stay in place and don't move. Gently tap the mold against the countertop to bring bubbles to the top and even out the plastic. Leave the mold flat and allow it to set for five minutes.

Fill a shallow container with 1 inch of water. Place the mold in the shallow container. Leave in the water for 10 minutes. Remove the mold from the water. Lay out several paper towels. Flip the mold over and push the plastic lures out. Be careful not to catch your finger in a hook.

Rub the plastic lures with fish-scent lubricating oil. Leave out in the open air for at least 10 minutes. Now you are ready to fish.

Be careful not to allow the plastic to cook too long or it will burn and change the texture.
