How to Make Homemade Essential Oils
Making your own essential oils using herbs is not that hard. Choose from the many different herbs or combine a couple of different herbs to make your own scent. All you will need are a few key ingredients, some fresh or organic herbs, and a little time. Directions are for using a crock-pot, but if you do not have a crock-pot, your oven maybe used in replacement. Just be sure to set the oven at a low setting, preferably 150 degrees F and cook for half the time. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Crock-pot ½ oz. herbs of your choice (lavender, peppermint, lemongrass, among others) 2 cups of either olive oil or jojoba oil Cheesecloth Bowl Jars with lids

Mix the ½ oz. of herbs of your choice with 2 cups of oil of your choice. Stir thoroughly. If you are using fresh herbs, make sure to first rinse the herbs with cool water.

Add your herb mixture to your slow cooker. Turn the slow cooker on low heat, or about 140 degrees F and cook for five to seven hours.

Remove your herb mixture from the crock-pot and strain into a bowl using your cheesecloth.

Place your strained essential oil into clean and sterilized jars with lids. Label each jar with the type of essential oil and the date.

Tips & Warnings
Essential oils should be stored in a cool dark area. The normal shelf life on homemade essential oils is about six to eight months.
