Whether you are trying to be more frugal or just want to do a craft project, there is a way to make your own candles at home. By using old candles or crayons and an egg carton, you can save money and find a new use for things around the house you would have thrown away. You can help your wallet and the environment by making your own candles at home from an egg carton.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Egg carton Old candles Old crayons Candle wicks Washers Double boiler or microwave Microwave-safe bowl
  1. Step 1

Take your candle wick and tie the end around a small metal washer. This will help anchor the candle wick to the bottom of the egg carton.

  2. Step 2

Gather old candles or crayons and melt them in a double boiler. If you don't have a double boiler, use a microwave-safe bowl and melt the candle or crayon wax in the microwave.

  3. Step 3

Place your candle wick anchor at the bottom of the egg carton, with the washer flat on the bottom. Hold the candle wick straight up, and slowly pour the melted wax into the egg holder; repeat with the other egg holders in the carton.

  4. Step 4

Place the candles in a cool room and wait for them to dry before handling them. This will take anywhere from four to eight hours.

  5. Step 5

Once your candles are dry, remove them from the egg carton.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can purchase candle wicks at a craft store.
  • Do not put your candles in the refrigerator to dry; this could cause them to get too cold and crack.
