Hook Up A DVR 625 Receiver to HDTV

The wide-ranging capabilities of the DVR 625 mean that you'll need fewer individual components cluttering up your entertainment center. Installing this new system presents a great opportunity to remove obsolete and unused machines to cut down on clutter. If you connect your cable box or satellite receiver to your new DVR and HDTV, you can avoid creating a tangled mass of cords behind the TV.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cable box or satellite dish receiver Surge protector power strip Coaxial cable (only for cable users) HDMI cable (only for cable users) 2 sets of standard component cables or S-video cables (only one set for cable users)
  1. Step 1

Gather together all of your components and cables. Make sure you are within a few feet of a standard three-prong outlet with a surge protector power strip plugged into it.

  2. Step 2

Connect the DVR 625 to your media input source, which should be either a satellite dish or cable. Inputs for each can be found on the back of the DVR. If you have cable with an HD cable box, the coaxial cable simply screws into the single threaded cable jack and the HDMI cable plugs into the single HDMI port. Both are clearly labeled. If you have a satellite dish, there are inputs for standard red, white and yellow component cables as well as for the more robust S-video component cables. These cables must run from the output jacks on your satellite dish receiver to the input jacks on the DVR unit. For best picture quality, use S-video cables. All of these jacks are clearly labeled too.

  3. Step 3

Connect the power plug of the DVR to the power strip.

  4. Step 4

Connect the DVR output to the TV input ports using a standard component cable or an S-video component cable. Again, S-video cables ensure higher HD quality. All of these jacks should be labeled; match the colors of each plug to the AV output jacks on the DVR and to the AV input jacks on the TV.

  5. Step 5

Connect the TV's power cord to the power strip.

  6. Step 6

Connect the cable box or satellite receiver, if applicable, to the power strip.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're buying a brand new DVR or HDTV, installation and setup may be included with your purchase. Double-check to see if you're entitled to a free installation before doing it yourself.
