How to Make Your Own Cosmetic Recipes

Why spend a lot of money buying cosmetics and facial treatments when you can make them at home, with ingredients that you already have in your refrigerator and pantry? You can save money by creating your own healthy facial masks and moisturizing hair treatments with a few items that you use in the kitchen every day, such as olive oil, yogurt and fruit. While conventional cosmetics are full of preservatives and chemicals, the cosmetics you make at home will be natural and good for your skin.       Whip up a cucumber facial mask, which is ideal for sensitive skin. Peel and seed half a cucumber, and run it through a food processor or blender until it is liquefied. Add 1 tbsp. each of whipping cream and honey. Blend the cream, honey and cucumber until the mixture is smooth, and then add in 8 tbsp. of oats to create a paste. Smooth the mask onto your face and keep it on for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

      Make your own grapefruit and honey face wash, which is a soothing way to cleanse and pamper your skin. In a bowl, mix 3 tbsp. of whipping cream and 1 tbsp. of honey. The cream may be warmed slightly in the microwave to allow the honey to dissolve easier. Add 4 tbsp. of oats to the honey and cream mixture to make a paste. Add two drops of grapefruit essential oil. Smooth on your face, then rinse with warm water. The mixture should last up to four days in the refrigerator.

      Create a refreshing mango facial mask using a fresh, peeled mango to cool your skin on hot summer days. Combine ¼ of the mango, 2 tbsp. of oats, 2 tbsp. of almonds and 2 tbsp. of whole milk in a food processor. Blend all ingredients for approximately one minute, or until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Apply the mask and keep it on your face for 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

      Moisturize your hair with a homemade avocado and olive oil treatment. Peel one ripe avocado and and blend with 2 tbsp. of olive oil in a food processor or blender. Massage the mixture onto wet hair and scalp, and cover with a shower cap. Leave the treatment on for 15 to 30 minutes, rinse thoroughly with warm water and shampoo as usual.

      Zap acne with tea tree oil. Highly astringent tea tree oil has long been used to clear up acne, and is a natural alternative to harsh benzoyl peroxide treatments. Undiluted tea tree oil should never be applied to the skin, as it can cause burning and irritation. Instead, mix a few drops with water and apply to acne with a cotton ball. The treatment can be left on overnight.
