How to Apply a Stocking Cap Weave

Weaves are in demand because users can wear a variety of styles without having to cut or chemically alter their natural hair. Stocking cap weaving is a less damaging way of applying a weave. The hair is applied directly to the stocking cap, instead of to one's own hair. Owners of a stocking cap weave can wear it like a wig or have it sewn to their braided hair. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare your supplies. You will need a stocking cap, hair extensions, weaving glue, a hair dryer, a pair of scissors, a needle, thread and a wig block. These items are all available at beauty supply stores.

    • 2

Braid your hair into cornrows and place the stocking cap on your head. For a snug fit, pull the excess fabric of the cap up at the center of your head and tie it into a knot. Cut the knot off with a pair of scissors.

    • 3

Take the stocking cap off. Sew the hole in a horizontal line across the cap.

    • 4

Cover the wig form with plastic wrap or paper towels. This is to prevent the glue from touching the wig form.

    • 5

Place the stocking cap over the plastic or paper towels covering on the wig block. Stick pins into the wig form around the edges of the cap to hold the cap in place while you work.

    • 6

Measure the required length of the first hair track. Place a long hair track at the back of the stocking cap, about 1 inch above the bottom of the cap. Measure how much of the track you will need for this first line and cut the track.

    • 7

Apply hot glue to the back of the weft (the sewed edge of the track) and place the track on the stocking cap. The weft should be about 1 inch from the bottom of the cap. Use your hair dryer to dry the glue.

    • 8

Repeat Steps 6 and 7 for the remaining rows. There should be about 1 inch of space between each track. Trim and style the hair as you wish.

Tips & Warnings

  • Consider using inexpensive hair to practice making a stocking cap weave. Use human hair to make a natural-looking weave. Synthetic and human hair extensions are available in various lengths. They can be obtained in natural hair colors, like black, blonde, brown and red, or artificial colors like blue, pink and orange. You can also choose from straight, wavy or curly hair.
