      Combine the alum and flour in the double boiler and add water slowly until the consistency turns to that of heavy cream.

      Stir constantly, over heat, with a plastic spoon until thoroughly blended. The mixture should turn to a thick, gravy-like consistency when ready.

      Remove from heat and let the mixture cool completely.

      Stir in the clove oil, adding a few drops at a time and mixing well before adding in the rest.

      Pour the finished mixture into a glass jar with a tightly fitting lid. Screw lids are ideal, but any lid that closes tightly will work.

      Store your wallpaper paste in the refrigerator for up to two weeks before discarding. Avoiding making too much paste at one time, as it does not keep well long term.
