Things You'll Need:
- Water filter and purification
-
Step 1
Fill with water. At their most basic, camping sinks are merely portable, flexible bowls that provides water for basic washing and other functions. Fill these with bottled water or water from a natural source.
-
Step 2
Filter your water. Remember just because it's called a "sink" doesn't mean the water's clean. If you're taking water from a stream, lake or other natural source, remember to filter and purify it before using it. Even just washing your face could transfer harmful parasites and disease.
-
Step 3
Use the sink. Once you have the sink filled with clean water, use it to wash up, wash dishes and other tools and for any other purpose that you need. Remember to change water between uses so it doesn't get dirty and contaminated.
-
Step 1
Charge the battery. The Coleman Hot Water on Demand is a more complex camping sink that actually heats your water and allows you to use a faucet to pour, much like a regular sink. It relies upon a 6V rechargeable battery and propane tank for operation. Plug the auto adapter or wall adapter in and charge until the indicator light is green.
-
Step 2
Fill with water. Fill the five-gallon jug (included) with clean, potable water. Use clean drinking water or filter and purify water appropriately; though the unit heats water, it does not heat it to boiling for purification purposes.
-
Step 3
Set the heater on a table or other level surface and keep water jug below the water heater unit. Attach the pump to the top of the water jug by screwing it on.
-
Step 4
Place the jug on its side with the water pump on the bottom of the jug. Rotate the pump to align the "This Side Up" marking to the top. Note: the pump is also designed to be placed into a clean water source such as a bowl or cooler full of water.
-
Step 5
Insert propane tank. Make sure the control knob is turned "Off". Open the propane access door on the front of the water heater. Take the cap off the propane tank and save. Hold the tank upright and screw it securely into the regulator by turning clockwise.
-
Step 6
Test for propane leaks using a solution of one part liquid dishwashing detergent and three parts water. You can make three ounces to make measurement easy. Put a few drops onto the connection between the regulator and propane cylinder to make sure that it doesn't bubble. If it does bubble, it is leaking--DO NOT USE and try unscrewing and reinserting the propane cylinder making sure it is straight and threaded properly. Retest using solution. If it still leaks do not use and contact the retailer or Coleman for service/replacement. If there's no leak, close the propane access door and proceed with use.
-
Step 7
Pull the faucet out by swinging it to the left. Set the control knob to the temperature range that you desire by pushing it in and turning counterclockwise. For the "Hot" setting, manually hold the control knob in place while filling your hot water. The unit will begin pumping water at the desired temperature. Turn control knob clockwise to "Off" position when done.
