Instructions

    • 1

Use the S-Video or A/V cable to connect your VCR to the TV tuner card on your computer. The video outputs are usually located on the back of the VCR, but might also be located on the sides, or even in the front. The TV tuner card acts as a video-capturing device when connected to a VCR.

    • 2

Run the video-capture software that came with your TV tuner. You can also use other types of software, such as video-editing software like Avid or Adobe Premiere.

    • 3

Go to "Settings" or "Options" (whichever choice your video-capturing program has). Then go to the tab that customizes the video-capturing options, which is usually labeled "Capture" or "Capture Format." Then make sure that the output video format for captured video is MPEG-2.

    • 4

Press "Capture" on the main screen of the program and press "Play" on the VCR. The video will be captured and converted.

    • 5

Open your DVD-burning software. (Nero is a popular program for burning.) Select the option "Make a DVD."

    • 6

Locate the video that has just been captured by clicking the "Add Files" button. Once you have found it, select it and press "Open" or "OK" (whichever your burning software offers).

    • 7

Insert a blank DVD into the DVD drive and press "Burn." Once this is finished, your VHS video has been successfully converted to a DVD.
