1
Find a comfortable place to work. You will need a table onto which to set the wood burner. A comfortable chair will also work if you can hold the piece in your hand or across your lap. Make sure that an outlet is nearby.
-
2
Place the stand on the table. Put the knife attachment on the wood burning tool. The knife attachment will allow you to use the tool to carve and cut off small sections of wood.

3
Set the wood burner in its stand. Plug it in and allow it to set for approximately 10 minutes. You will see the metal on the tool change colors as it gets hot.
-
4
Hold the wood burner steadily in your hand, and begin cutting by touching the knife to the wood. The wood will begin to burn as soon as the metal touches it. The longer the wood burner touches the wood, the darker and deeper the burn will be.
-
5
Set the wood burner back in the stand. Unplug the tool, and allow it to cool. Once it has cooled completely, switch tools to carve in any other design. Most kits come with shapes and shading tools. Use these tools by repeating Steps 3 through 4.
