The Nintendo GameCube is a sturdy and reliable piece of hardware. It will play games and run with no problems for years if you properly maintain the machine. One of the things that can help you preserve the life of your GameCube is accurately cleaning the inside of the GameCube. Dirt can get inside of a Nintendo GameCube and cause the laser to not read discs correctly. In addition, it can cause the mechanical parts of the GameCube to wear down and stop working.

Things You'll Need

  • Can of air Rubbing alcohol Cotton swabs
  • Open your Nintendo GameCube. Push the "Open" button on the top of the console.

  • Use the can of air to remove the excess dust. Turn the machine sideways so that the dust and dirt leaves the console. Spray the can of air over each area, especially around the laser and in crevices.

  • Dab the cotton swab in the rubbing alcohol. It should be moist but not overly saturated. Rub the top of the swab over the laser lens. Clean the lens thoroughly as well as the crevices.

  • Let the Nintendo GameCube dry completely with the lid open. Insert a game and turn the power on.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use another cotton swab and dip it into the rubbing alcohol. Clean each game before you insert it into the console.
