How to Aim a Rifle Scope
Rifle scopes are more than mere telescopes. Most models come with devices designed to adjust for the differing conditions a shooter might encounter. Furthermore, no scope can compensate for a poor aiming and shooting technique. Proper aiming is about the right use of two interlocking tools: the rifle and the scope.

1
Grip the rifle by placing your primary hand on the grip and your secondary hand forward on the stock. Place the rifle butt squarely into the shoulder.
-
2
Tilt the head so you can look into the scope using the eye closest to it. Close the eye farthest from the scope.

3
Adjust the scope for magnification. The exact setting will be determined by both the range, the size of the target and the capabilities of the scope, but as a general rule you do not want to be straining to see a target through a scope because it is too small.

4
Adjust for windage and bullet drop. Nearly all scopes have knobs to permit adjustments for these two factors. The horizontal knob will make small adjustments to correct for windage, while the vertical knob will correct for bullet drop or the ballistic parabola of a shot.
