Things You'll Need:

  • Drinking water Fiber supplements Juices
  1. Step 1

Increase the child's water intake. Water can alleviate a variety of health conditions. Limit their intake of sodas and other sugary beverages.

  2. Step 2

Encourage physical activity. Exercising, playing sports or running stimulates the digestive tract and promotes regularity. Oftentimes constipation in children is the direct result of a sedentary lifestyle.

  3. Step 3

Give the child fiber supplements. Children need approximately 14 grams of fiber a day. Eating a healthy serving of fruits and vegetables can fulfill the recommended daily dose. If not, increase the child's fiber intake with supplements.

  4. Step 4

Ease constipation with apple or prune juice. Laxatives can quickly get rid of constipation. However, if you're trying to treat the condition naturally, avoid over-the-counter laxatives. Instead, give your child apple or prune juice. Both juices function as a natural laxative, and they can provide quick relief.

  5. Step 5

Massage your child's stomach. Place your hands below his belly button and gently massage your child's stomach. This motion can stimulate the digestive tract and encourage a bowel movement.
