How to Build a Bailey Chair for Dogs

Bailey Chairs are used to help your dog with different diseases where they can not swallow correctly. The Bailey Chair props the dog up so that food and water will gently slide down the dog's throat so the dog will not vomit.

    Things You'll Need

    • Plywood Pillow Circular wood Pen Paper Nails Hammer
      • 1

        Measure the length of your dog as she sits on her buttocks. Write this measurement down.

        Measure the width of your dog's hips/buttocks. Write this measurement down.

      • 3

        Measure the width of your dog's shoulders. Write this number down.

      • 4

        Measure from the back of your dog to the bend in her front legs. Write this number down.

      • 5

        Take the pillow you will be placing on the floor and measure the width. Write this number down.

      • 6

        Measure from your dog's front legs to her buttocks. Write this number down.

      • 7

        Take the measurement for the length of your dog plus the width of the pillow. Add them together.

        Cut your piece of plywood to the measurements you wrote down for Step 4 and Step 7. This should make a rectangle.

        Repeat Step 7 two more times. You want to end up with three pieces of wood.

        Take two pieces of wood and nail them in the shape of an "L." The length of the wood should be standing upright on the ground.

        Take the number you wrote from Step 6 and add the measurement from Step 5. Measure this on the inside of one of the pieces of wood you have nailed together.

        Take the circular wood. Name where you have marked the wood.

      • 13

        Take the single piece of wood and nail it to the L-shaped piece of wood.

      • 14

        Nail the circular piece of wood to the piece of wood that is connected next to it.

      • 15

        Place the pillow inside the open box on the floor.

      • 16

        Place your dog into the box area allowing her feet and buttocks to rest on the pillow.

      • 17

        Put her front paws onto the circle of wood and let her sit there.

      • 18

        Now you can feed your dog in her new Bailey Chair.

    • Make sure the wood does not have splinters.
