How to Make a First Aid Kit for a College Dorm
You are finally going to college and living in a dorm, so you should put together the things you'll need in case of an emergency. A first aid kit is not something that's top on your list of things to do, but you'll be glad you put one together if an accident happens to you or your roommates.

Amass the necessities. Head for your local dollar store, because you'll find most of them there, and they are cheap. Look first for bandages. Buy an assortment of sizes from Band Aids for simple wounds to larger ones you'll need if the wound is more serious. Your kit should contain rolls of gauze and medical tape, and a small pair of scissors to cut the gauze and tape.

Add the non-essential items to your first aid kit. Start with tweezers that can be used for thorns and splinters. Your first aid kit should also include an inexpensive oral thermometer and a supply of Q-Tips that can have a number of uses. Your first aid kit would not be complete without safety pins of different sizes; a small tube of Vaseline; headache medication such as aspirin, acetaminophen or neproxin; and a small package of tissue. Finally, you will find a working flashlight, in case the accident happens at night, as well as an emergency medicine handbook that will help you identify the proper action to take.

Buy a box after you have bought all the items for your first aid kit. Once again, your local dollar store most likely has a wide selection from which to choose. You will want a box that is sturdy and has a top. Make sure it is large enough to contain all the items you have purchased; but recognize that, since it will most likely be stored under your bed, so it should be fairly thin. Make sure it is clearly marked as your first aid kit, even though you may choose to paint or decorate it to suit your tastes.
