The Remington Model 5 .22 bolt action rifle is a popular firearm for either hunting or "plinking" at targets. Bolt action rifles are simple weapons, but even the simplest firearm needs cleaning from time to time to stay in good working order, and regularly cleaning a Remington can guarantee decades of useful service.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cleaning rod Solvent Gun oil Cleaning pads Cleaning cloth Wet and dry rags
  1. Step 1

    Remove the bolt. Check again to make sure the gun is unloaded and then pull the trigger. Press down on the release lever and free the bolt.

  2. Step 2

    Take out the cleaning rod, put a cleaning pad on it and dip the pad into the solvent.

  3. Step 3

    Push the rod and pad into the barrel from the bolt-end, going back and forth through the barrel several times.

  4. Step 4

    Use the wet and dry rags to clean and dry any exterior part of the gun that has dirt, grime or some other encrustation on it.

  5. Step 5

    Take the cleaning cloth and dip it in gun oil. Use this to oil the exterior parts of the metal.
