How to Get Dust Mites Off of the Skin
Dust mites live in warm, moist environments. However, dust mites do not usually live on the skin. A shower with warm soapy water will remove dust mites and their waste from the surface of the body. The best way to prevent dust mites from getting on the skin is to control them in the environment.

2
Vacuum carpets daily with a vacuum equipped with a High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter. Dust mites and dust-mite waste are 10 to 50 micrometers in size and can be as low as 5 micrometers. HEPA filters trap particulate sizes as small as 0.3 micrometers.

3
Maintain a relative humidity level below 50 percent. Dust mites require humidity levels that average above 50 percent to survive.
-
4
Dust with a wet cloth to prevent dust mites and their waste from becoming airborne. No chemicals are needed. Dusting with a cloth dampened with water is effective at trapping the dust mites and their waste.
-
5
Clean bedding weekly by washing in temperatures above 130 degrees F or drying in the dryer. No soap is needed to remove dust mites from bedding.
-
6
Use a damp mop weekly to clean floors such as wood or tile instead of a broom. This prevents dust mites and their waste from becoming airborne and resettling on surfaces. No chemicals are needed. A mop dampened in water is effective at trapping dust mites and their waste.
