How to Make Icing for Brownies

You can always frost your brownies with store-bought icing, but why do that when making your own is so easy? This sweet frosting will make your brownies taste extra chocolaty. The espresso powder is optional, but it will make the chocolate in your icing and brownies richer. If you are looking for the ultimate brownies, put this icing on top of a fresh batch after they have cooled.

Things You'll Need

  • Mixer Bowl 1/2 stick (1/4 cup) butter, softened 2 cups of powdered (icing) sugar 1 tsp. instant espresso powder 2 tbsp. cocoa 2 tbsp. milk (if needed) Spatula for spreading
  • Combine the powdered sugar, espresso powder (if using) and cocoa in a bowl.

  • Add the butter to the dry ingredients.

  • Mix over low speed until thoroughly combined.

  • Add the milk one tablespoon at a time to thin the icing out to reach a spreadable consistency.

  • Spread the icing over a large pan of cooled brownies with the spatula and serve.

  • Wait until the brownies have completely cooled before icing them.
