How to Make Valentine Greeting Cards
Creating original Valentine cards takes on a whole new dimension when using craft foam sheets rather than construction paper. These foam sheets are easy to find at craft stores (or see source at the end of the article) and easy to cut and glue, while adding a professional look to homemade cards. The design shown with the article is suggested as a simple starting point, but once you've gotten the hang of it, coming up with your own ideas will be easy and fun.

How to Make Valentine Greeting Cards
-
1
Use a piece of cardboard to make a heart pattern approximately 5½ by 5½ inches.
-
2
Fold the sheet of card stock in half. Trace the pattern onto card stock, making sure the edge of the heart is on the fold; you will have a heart-shaped card that opens. (Note: One piece of card stock will produce two cards.)
-
-
3
Use the pattern to cut a purple heart from the foam sheet. Glue the purple foam heart onto the front of the card.
-
4
Cut down the cardboard pattern by ½ inch, trace onto the red foam sheet and cut out.
-
5
Glue the red foam heart onto the purple one.
-
6
Cut out small heart decorations to top the red heart as shown in picture. You might like to decorate these smaller heart decorations with glitter.
-
7
Use the cardboard heart pattern to make a heart on the pink copy paper; in the center write a Valentine message. If you want to print the words using a computer printer, make sure to do so in the center of the paper so you will have room to fit the heart pattern around the message before you cut it out. Glue the pink heart onto the right side of the inside of the card.

Tips & Warnings
Use additional foam craft hearts to decorate envelopes for the cards.
If using glitter, allow the pieces to dry thoroughly before gluing onto other pieces. Do not try to glue one heart with glitter to another heart with glitter as it will be difficult to make them stick together.
