How to Gift Wrap Large Items

  1. Step 1

Obtain a large quantity of wrapping paper, either one large roll or several matching rolls. You might even consider using newsprint or the comic section from a newspaper, if it is appropriate to the occasion.

  2. Step 2

Cut the piece(s) of paper large enough to cover the present completely with enough extra for an inch of overlap on each side. Depending on the size of the present, your paper may not be wide enough, and you may need to use two or more pieces of paper pieced together to wrap the present.

  3. Step 3

If a single piece of paper is large enough, center the present on the "wrong" (unpatterned) side and secure with cellophane tape on the back or underside. If two or more pieces are required, try to arrange them so the seam is not noticeable before securing with tape. If you are able to match the pattern on the pieces of paper, all the better.

  4. Step 4

Cover the ends of the present by folding up the paper sticking out from the bottom and folding down the paper sticking out from the top. Secure each end with plenty of tape.

  5. Step 5

Finish the present with a bow or ribbon that fits the scale of the package keeping in mind that a small bow will be lost on a large package.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the gift is very large and unwieldy, you may need another person to help lift and turn it. For a large present that is an irregular size, you might want to look for a bag designed for such irregular presents.
  • If your large gift is also very heavy, be careful not to tear the paper when you move it. You may want to consider wrapping the present where it will be given, if that is possible.
