1
Ask the parents what will please their little girl; this can help you hit the gift target right on the center.
-
2
Go for clothes: Choose items with big buttons, toggles, zippers or snaps - they'll make it easier for her to dress herself.
-
-
3
Consider dolls, simple memory games or a doctor's kit - anything to get her creative juices flowing.
-
4
Go for books: Get an old classic favorite from your childhood or something new and bright.
-
5
Remember the parents, especially if they're expecting a second child: Give a day of babysitting or help organize a birthday party.
-
6
Look to the future. Give a savings bond or cash earmarked for the education fund.

Tips & Warnings
Keep the parents' style in mind when gift shopping and choose something that fits well with their way of parenting.
Don't expect a personal thank-you note from that three-year-old - but count on a grateful smile from the mother or father.
Read packaging and warning labels carefully so you don't end up giving a gift that's not toddler-safe.

Loved your article. But my kids always had a fit when one set of grandparents always got them classic books or clothes for presents. I'd say, for a three year old girl, go for a doll and forego the book or outfit.
