How to Gain Better Sleep Without Medication
Getting the recuperative sleep that you need each night is important, not only for your physical well-being but for your mental health, too. Sleep is not an option; it is required just like the air you breathe and the food you eat. Suffering from sleep deprivation has a negative impact on your day-to-day regimen such as your performance at work and the way you interact socially. Problems at work and financial difficulties may all keep sleep at bay. Many aspects of your home decor, especially your bedroom, may affect your ability to relax, thus affecting your routine and your sleep patterns. It is important to go home and let go of your work-load, your financial problems and other factors that may keep you lying awake at night.

1
Drink herbal tea before bedtime, such as chamomile tea that relaxes and induces drowsiness. While you drink the tea, think of you and you only. It is important to disconnect from your problems and relax.

2
Run a warm bubble-bath and give orders not to be disturbed. Set votive candles all around the bathroom and take your bath by candlelight. Play soothing music like New Age or soft ballads. Read a book if you'd like, or simply do nothing. It's entirely up to you as to how you spend your time. Relax and enjoy. Wrap up in a fluffy towel when you want to end your relaxation session and pamper yourself.

Warm a glass of milk. Like turkey, milk contains L-tryptophan, a natural sleep inducer. Once in the body, L-tryptophan is converted by the brain into serotonin, which induces sleep. Curl up in a big comfy chair and read a book or magazine while sipping the warm beverage.

Play a CD containing natural sounds of nature. Babbling brooks, morning birdsong, whale sounds and jungle sounds are all relaxing noises for evoking sleep. Relax as you listen and imagine that you are in some far off paradise. Visualize what is around you like soft sandy beaches and green leafy jungle plants.

Create your own dream-space in your bedroom. Empty the bedroom completely and start on a decorative overhaul of the entire room. Begin by carpeting the floor in shag-pile carpet for ultimate foot comfort. Choose drapes instead of blinds and allow enough material for plenty of folds and pleats. Allow the drapery to touch the floor to give the room a luxurious feel. Place an overstuffed armchair in the room and throw a "granny-squares" crocheted blanket over the back of the chair. Add fluffy plump pillows to the bed and a goose-down quilt. Use soft pastel shades for either the wallpaper or paint. When you enter the bedroom, leave all your problems outside.
