Well, here are five DIY projects that you can complete in an afternoon that will please your sweetie just in time for Valentine's Day.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper-cutting scissors Red, pink and white construction paper Glue Trim (such as lace, rick-rack or ribbon) Markers Photographs (if desired) Your favorite rolled sugar cookie recipe (including all the ingredients and baking utensils) Heart-shaped cookie cutters White frosting Red food coloring Red sprinkles Shoe box Aluminum foil Glitter Candy hearts (or other treats) Cardboard Card stock paper Calligraphy pen and/or gel pen
  1. Step 1

Make him a handmade, heart-shaped card.
Trace or draw a large heart on a piece of red or pink construction paper. Use scissors to cut out the heart. Then glue lace, rick-rack, ribbon or another trim of your liking around the heart border. Using markers, embellish the front and back of the heart with personal sentiments, heart symbols, tiny cupids, photographs of the two of you and any other designs that you deem appropriate.

  2. Step 2

Make him some cute, heart-shaped cookies.
Whip up a batch of your favorite rolled sugar cookies. After rolling out the cookie dough, press heart-shaped and/or cupid-shaped cookie cutters into the dough. Bake cookies according to your recipe instructions and then decorate them with red sprinkles and red/pink frosting that you can make by adding various amounts of red food coloring to white frosting. Your man will be impressed at your culinary thoughtfulness.

  3. Step 3

Make him a Valentine's Day box to hold candy and other treats.
Convert an old shoe box into a special Valentine's Day container by decorating it with arts and crafts supplies. Wrap the box lid, sides and bottom with aluminum foil. Then cut out red and pink hearts and glue them to the foil-covered lid and box sides. Use glue to write "I Love You" across the top of the box lid. Then sprinkle the glue with glitter. Add any other embellishments or sentiments to the box and then fill it with candy hearts and other Valentine's Day goodies.

  4. Step 4

    Make him a one-of-a-kind bookmark.
Cut out a long, vertical rectangle out of cardboard to form the shape of a bookmark. Wrap the cardboard shape in aluminum foil. Cut out small heart shapes using red and pink construction paper and then glue them to the foil-wrapped bookmark. Add any other designs or embellishments to the bookmark that you think your guy will like. Every time he opens up his favorite book, your honey will remember your thoughtfulness.

  5. Step 5

    Write him a poem.
Take the time to write a heartfelt poem for your sweetie. You do not need to be an accomplished writer or poet to do this. Just rhyme some phrases that tell your guy how much you love him. When you are finished drafting your poem, write it on heavy card stock paper using a calligraphy pen or fancy gel marker.
