1
When choosing a jar, keep in mind the size of the figurines you will be using. Decorative jars for oils or pimentos work well. Clean the jar and soak off any labels. Make sure the jar is completely dry then fill it 3/4 full with the mineral oil. Press a mound of florist clay into the lid to elevate it past the rim of the jar. Make sure to leave a space around the edge of the jar so you can screw it on. Replace the lid and set the jar aside.

Choose small waterproof figurines that complement the child's interests. Good choices include plastic army men, small toys, polymer clay figures, or cake decorations. Cake picks work especially well for smaller children as they can stick the pick directly into the clay. Multiple figurines will allow the child to arrange a more complex scene. Wash and dry the figurines.

Peal the membrane from the egg shell, then crush the shell. Place the crushed egg shell into a small zip-lock bag. Add glitter and confetti to the bag if you wish. Confetti is available in many designs. For a springtime snow globe you may want to skip the egg shells and use plastic confetti in flower shapes instead. Keep the snow globe's theme in mind when choosing your confetti and glitter colors. Once you're done, seal the plastic bag.

Write the following instructions on a sheet of paper:
Press or glue the figurines into the clay.
Empty the snow into the jar.
Squeeze silicone glue into the thread of the lid.
Screw the lid on tight.
Glue the ribbon or lace around the lid to form the base.
Shake and enjoy! -

Assemble the gift bag. Measure a length of ribbon or lace to fit around the lid of the jar with a 1/2-inch overlap. Place the jar, ribbon, snow, figurines and silicone glue inside the gift bag. Tie the instructions to the handle of the bag with the extra ribbon.

Tips & Warnings
Separate the different types of confetti into zip-lock bags so the recipient has a choice of which to include. Personalize the gift bag with decorations.
Make sure an adult helps children with the gluing. Small children should not play with snow globes because of the danger of broken glass.

You can also purchase plastic DIY snowglobe kits from Global Shakeup Snowdomes. Plastic is less likely to break, so it should be safer for kids to work with.
