How to Clean Road Film From a Windshield
Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar and spray it on your windshield. Using a crumpled newspaper or soft cloth, wipe the film off the windshield.
Using the same wet crumpled newspaper, or a soft cloth, wipe down the windshield wipers as well. This will remove any lingering road film and prevent it from streaking across your freshly cleaned windshield.
Ask your local auto parts dealer to recommend an industrial-strength cleaner if the film remains. Saturate the windshield with the cleaner, don't simply lightly spray it. Let the cleaner soak on the windshield for approximately three minutes, then wipe the film off with a newspaper or soft cloth.
If after trying all the steps above, the road film doesn't come off the windshield or it appears again shortly, contact an auto repair shop. You may have a more serious problem, such as a leak in your air conditioner.
Tips & Warnings
- Make sure to clean the inside of your windshield as well for maximum clarity.
- Do not use any household cleaners that contain ammonia, because the chemicals can damage your windshield. Do not use anything rough or abrasive to scrub the film, since this can scratch the glass.
