Build a Paper Model Castle
-
1
Draw the outline of a foundation for your paper castle on a large piece of sturdy cardboard. You can build the castle on any flat surface, but the cardboard will allow you to move the castle. Include details in your outline, including towers and doors. Draw two lines for both sides of the walls (castle walls were very thick). 2
Construct a single wall by cutting two identical pieces of paper to fit on top of the foundation outline. Cut out the battlements (the alternating square sections) along the tops of both pieces of paper. Connect the sides of the wall by cutting small tabs from sturdy construction paper. Bend the tabs so they form an "L" shape. These are the brackets to hold all the pieces of your castle together.

3
Place four brackets on the two inner sides of the pieces of paper at identical spots, with the horizontal part of the "L" facing up. Connect the sides of the walls by cutting a narrow strip of paper and gluing it to the brackets, thus forming a walkway along the battlements. Glue brackets to the base of the wall and the cardboard foundation to hold the wall in place. Use this technique to build all the walls of your castle.

4
Construct towers periodically along the wall or at any point where the wall turns. Build the tower shaft by rolling a long piece of paper into a cylinder. Attach the cylinder to the cardboard foundation with the same "L" brackets used on the walls. Build the tower roofs by twisting a piece of paper into a sharp cone. Fasten the roof to the shaft with brackets and glue. If you want a really detailed paper castle, cut out door holes in the towers where the walls intercept them.

5
Cut a tall, arch-shaped hole in the paper that will serve as a castle door and gate. Many castle gates were made from iron rods attached to each other at 90-degree angles. Roll pieces of paper into tight cylinders and smash them flat to create the rods. Attach them to each other with glue at regular intervals at 90-degree angles. Cut the bases of the vertical rolls so that they are sharp. Glue the gate to the inside of the door.

Tips & Warnings
To make the castle more realistic, draw or color stones on the paper before using it to build the structure. Use action figures or other toy figurines for guards.
