How to Make Chocolate Curls for Garnish


Want to transform a boring dessert into a work of art? These chocolate curls add the perfect touch to many desserts, such as decorated cakes, cheesecakes, or cream pies. They're simple to make, but don't let your guests know that!

Things You'll Need

  • 8 oz. block Semi-sweet chocolate Plate Vegetable Peeler Toothpick (optional)
  • Put the chocolate block on the plate. Set the plate near a sunny window, warm stove, or another warm area.

  • Leave the plate there for about an hour so that the block will soften slightly.

  • Moving from one end to the other, slide the peeler along the surface of the chocolate. The results will not be uniform. Some pieces will look like curled ribbons, others will look like small circles, and others will look like tiny splinters. Use all of them for a more natural effect.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use white chocolate instead of semi-sweet chocolate, if desired. You will probably only be able to find the 8 oz block of chocolate in a specialty shop or bakery. If you use a smaller block, your curls will not look as much like long ribbons.
  • Be careful when you transfer the curls onto the dessert. You may want to pick up each individual curl with a toothpick to keep it intact.
