Proper maintenance of wool carpet will keep it beautiful for years.

Wool carpet is wonderful because it can look great for years and is durable. The downside to wool carpeting is that you must take care of it properly to retain its beauty. You can use only certain cleaners on wool, and if you don't take care of a stain right away, it could be too late. Wool does have a propensity for staining quite easily. You may not want to install wool carpeting if you have young children, but if you decide to, with proper upkeep your wool carpet will stay glorious. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Vacuum your wool carpet regularly to keep it looking good. Ideally, vacuum at least once a week if not more, using an upright vacuum.

    • 2

Move the vacuum using slow strokes to ensure that you remove all dirt and particles. Check often to make sure the vacuum bag doesn't become over half-full.

    • 3

Remove stains immediately. The first thing to do is to use some paper towels to soak up as much of the stain as you can. If it's solid, remove what you can.

    • 4

Mix 1 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid and 1 cup of warm water. Place the solution on a paper towel and apply it to the stain gently; do not put the cleaning solution directly on the carpet.

    • 5

Rinse the area using a clean towel and lukewarm water. Make sure the carpet is not saturated, though.

    • 6

Place a stack of paper towels onto the wet spot to dry it. Place a heavy object on top and check it frequently to see if it's dry. Change paper towels as needed.

    • 7

Fluff up the fibers with your fingers once the carpet is dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • For optimum care of your wool carpet, have it professionally cleaned once every few years along with regular maintenance.
