Wash the sweater with warm water and baby soap. Regular baby shampoo works great. Only machine-wash the sweater if the care instructions on the tag say it's all right. Washing the sweater by hand is the safest method. Run warm water into the sink and use as much of the shampoo as necessary to get the water sudsy. Swish the garment around in the water and allow it to sit for 10 minutes in the warm soapy water.

Lay the sweater on a towel and place a second towel on top of it. Roll the towels up with the sweater inside to help remove any extra moisture. Unroll the towels and leave the sweater to dry on a new dry towel. Make sure the sweater has no creases or folds in it. Give the sweater a couple of hours to completely dry.
