How to Change the Oil on a KTM Motorcycle

The best part about owning a motorcycle is that much of the maintenance can be done in your own garage. Motorcycle engines have lots of moving parts, so lubrication is crucial. Every 3,000 miles, you should change the oil in your KTM motorcycle. Changing your motorcycle's oil can easily be done in your garage.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 10W-40 Oil Wrench Set Oil Filter Pan

    Change the Oil on a KTM Motorcycle

  1. Step 1

    Read the KTM motorcycle's manual. Purchase the proper oil filter from your local auto store or from the link provided in Resources.

  2. Step 2

    Place the pan under the hole to catch the old oil. Unscrew the drain plug nut on the bottom of the oil pan under the motorcycle. Once all the oil has drained, screw the drain plug nut back in.

  3. Step 3

    Unscrew the oil filter on the left side of the motorcycle engine with your hand.

  4. Step 4

    Wipe oil around the gasket on the new oil filter. Screw the new oil filter on until it becomes hard to turn.

  5. Step 5

    Add the suggested amount of 10W-40 oil to the engine. Check the oil dipstick to make sure the proper amount is added.
