Things You'll Need:

  • Grid paper Pencil Ruler Railroad track Small finish nails Hammer Scale model buildings and landscaping Glue
  1. Step 1

Lay out your design of how you want to build your HO model train by using grid paper and a pencil. Layouts can be anything from a simple circle to an oval or anything you want it to be. You can even add switches to move your train to another track or turntables to change the direction of your train.

  2. Step 2

Locate a flat surface, large enough to accommodate the train model you have laid out. Decide whether you want this layout to be permanent on the flat surface or just temporary.

  3. Step 3

Lay your railroad track pieces out on your flat surface but do not secure until you have the layout exactly as you want it. If you want this to be permanent, secure track with small finish nails.

  4. Step 4

Decorate your layout by designing with scale model buildings, landscapes or anything you choose. Again, if permanent, once you have your design the way you want it, secure with modeling glue and allow to dry. Enjoy your new HO train layout.
