Apples are a healthy and delicious snack. Though apples can be purchased at almost any grocery store throughout the year, you can also grown them on your own apple tree. With an apple, a few simple steps and a lot of patience, almost anyone can begin growing apple trees from apple seeds. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

      Remove the seeds from the core of an apple.

      Wrap the seeds in a damp paper towel.

      Refrigerate the seeds wrapped in the damp paper towel for 7 to 14 days.

      Check on the seeds every few days to see whether they have sprouted.

      Fill a small pot with potting soil.

      Remove sprouted seeds from the paper towel.

      Dig a whole in the potting soil 1/2 inch deep.

      Place the sprouted seed in the hole.

      Cover the seed with additional potting soil.

      Water the seedling. Continue to water the seedling every few days. The soil should never completely dry out.

      Place the potted seedling in a sunny place.

      When the seedling outgrows the small pot, replant the tree in the ground.

Tips & Warnings

  • It can take 6 years or more for apple trees grown from seeds to produce fruit. Apple trees will not necessarily grow the same type of apple from which the seed was removed. Some apple trees grown from seeds may never produce fruit.
