How to Do a Blowout on Ethnic Hair

  1. Step 1

Apply moisturizing cream to hair, from roots to ends, and comb it though to distribute evenly.

  2. Step 2

Part hair into four sections and clip three of them up so that they don't dry while you do the other section.

  3. Step 3

Starting with a back section of hair, place the round brush underneath the hair and pull taut. The round brush is your best friend and a key to this technique, as it will smooth the hair while keeping it untangled and will help distribute the heat from the blow dryer. The brush should be constantly in motion.

  4. Step 4

Aim the blow dryer at the roots of the section you are holding on the brush and move it slowly toward the end of the hair, rolling the brush at the same time so that all the hair gets the benefit of the air, and the stretching and smoothing action of the brush.

  5. Step 5

Repeat this process until the section is completely dry, then blast with cool air to set the blowout. Continue until all hair is dry, and cooled. After the blowout has been set, you can continue to style as you wish.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that the hair is completely dry at the roots, or else frizziness and kinky curls will form and ruin the style. Remember that the direction you are pulling the hair while it it drying is going to be where it tends to go once it is dry. If you use a side part, make sure to direct the hair in that direction.
