How to Crochet a Beanie Hat

Crocheted beanie hats have become a popular accessory with the teenage crowd. This pattern is quickly stitched using a basic double crochet stitch and can easily be accomplished by a beginning crocheter. Things You'll Need:

  • 4-ply worsted weight yarn H crochet hook Scissors
  1. Step 1

    Chain 4 and slip stitch in the beginning chained to form a ring. Chained 2 and double crochet, nine times in the ring. Slip stitch to the beginning chain two. Chain 2 will count as one double crochet now and throughout. The round ends with 10 double crochet.

  2. Step 2

    Chain 2. Insert the hook in the beginning of the chain 2 and double crochet. Double crochet two times in each stitch around for a total of 20 double crochet. Slip stitch to the beginning chain 2.

  3. Step 3

    Chain 2. Insert the hook in the beginning of the chain 2 and double crochet. Double crochet once in the next stitch. *Double crochet two times in the next stitch and one double crochet in the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * all the way around for a total of 30 double crochet stitches. Slip stitch to the beginning chain 2.

  4. Step 4

    Chain 2. Double crochet in next stitch and double crochet two times in the next stitch. * Double crochet in next two stitches and double crochet two times in the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * all the way around for a total of 40 double crochet stitches. Slip stitch to the beginning chain 2.

  5. Step 5

    Chain 2. Insert the hook in the beginning of the chain 2 and double crochet. Double crochet once in the next three stitches. * Double crochet two times in the next two stitches and double crochet one time in the next three stitches.* Repeat from * to * all the way around for a total of 50 double crochet stitches. Slip stitch to the beginning chain 2.

  6. Step 6

    Chain 2. Double crochet in next stitch and double crochet two times in the next stitch. * Double crochet once in the next nine stitches and double crochet two times in the next stitch. * Repeat from * to * three more times. Double crochet in the last double crochet stitches for a total of 55 double crochet stitches. Slip stitch to the beginning chain 2.

  7. Step 7

    Chain 2. Double crochet in each stitch around. Slip stitch to the beginning chain 2.

  8. Step 8

    Repeat steps 7, eight more times to achieve the length of the crocheted beanie hat.

  9. Step 9

    Chain 1. Single crochet in each stitch around. Slip stitch to the beginning chain 1. Finish off and weave in the end on the crocheted beanie hat.
