Step 1
Protect your hands from cat feces with rubber gloves. If you do not have rubber gloves, put sandwich-sized plastic bags over your hands (like mittens).

Pick up as much of the cat poop as you can and discard it in the toilet. In most cases, you'll be able to get all of the solid matter off the sofa cushion very easily without leaving stains.

Use an upholstery cleaner that is appropriate for the type of couch to clean the remaining fecal matter off the cushion. For heavy stains, allow the cleaner to soak into the stain for 10 minutes before it wiping away with a cloth.

Remove odors associated with cat poop with an enzyme-based cleaner made specifically for pet stains. Petsmart and other pet stores carry a variety of products from which to choose (see Resources).

Step 5
Vacuum the sofa cushion after applying the cleaning agents. Read the labels on the bottles to know whether you need to wait for the cleaners to dry before vacuuming.

Step 6
Make your couch smell fresh with a fabric refresher spray. Let the spray air-dry.
